Darwin Nunez, Calvin Ramsey, and Fabio Carvalho are the only new additions to the Liverpool squad this summer; however, they could still make one more signing before the transfer window shuts.
What’s the latest?
According to Journalist José Alberto Molestina, Liverpool are preparing an offer for Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Moises Caicedo.
Studio Futbol tweeted alongside a clip discussing the player’s future:
“Liverpool are preparing an offer. Also: “Moises Caicedo doesn’t feel like United today”, information from @jamolestina in #DeUnaXSF.”
Journalist Juan Jose Palacios further conveyed the news on behalf of Studio Futbol:
“In the program De Una of StudioFútbol, they announced – supported by the information handled by María José Flores – that not only Manchester United is behind the tricolor, but that Liverpool also has it on the agenda in a possible offer valued at more of 50 million.”
It could be bye-bye Keita
The Liverpool midfield has been the subject of much discussion in recent weeks as the Premier League giants deal with numerous injury issues and Naby Keita’s future being put into question.
The player’s contract negotiations have stopped, according to Sky Sports reporter Florian Plettenberg, who also reported that the player is unhappy at the club in a Twitter update earlier last week:
As a result, the signing of Caicedo may present Liverpool with the perfect opportunity to part ways with Keita, whose contract expires next summer. By letting him go, they must put their attention on a talented and young player who could play an important role at Anfield in the future.
The 20-year-old, who was hailed as a “special talent” by journalist Ryan Taylor, has been showing glimpses of his ability while competing for a spot in Graham Potter’s side with eight outstanding performances in the Premier League last season.
Caicedo proved that he offers great qualities in both attacking and defensive play. He scored one goal, providing one assist, while making 1.3 interceptions, completing two tackles, and taking 1.9 shots per game.
In addition, considering his minimal playing experience and young age, the Brighton midfielder is among the top 25% of his positional peers in the top five European leagues for tackles, clearances, and touches over the last 12 months.
For his three performances so far this season, Caicedo has currently risen to eighth place in the entire Brighton squad, with his best effort coming in the Seagulls’ 2-1 victory over Manchester United in their Premier League opener at Old Trafford.
The £42.3 million rated midfielder, completed 28 of his 34 passes, made four tackles, with three key passes, clearances, and interceptions, further demonstrating his ability to positively influence the team in big games which could make him a highly valuable asset for Klopp.
The midfielder is amassing some seriously impressive statistics this season as well, making 1.7 interceptions and successfully completing 3.7 tackles per game in 2022/23.
Having said that, Caicedo would be a big addition for Liverpool and, given his outstanding qualities across the board, could very well force Keita through the exit door.
