Todd Boehly’s £4.25 billion Chelsea acquisition can’t come soon enough for coach Thomas Tuchel to start overhauling the team.
It will be a while before the Government ratifies Boehly’s consortium and formally ends tycoon Roman Abramovich’s 19-year rule at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea have been without a transfer since Abramovich was sanctioned by Boris Johnson for his ties to Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine. Out-of-contract Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen are setting up moves to Real Madrid, while Cesar Azpilicueta and Marcos Alonso seem to be leaving as well.
Tuchel will need new centre-backs, wing-back cover for Reece James and Ben Chilwell, and strikers to replace £97.5 million flop Romelu Lukaku. Chelsea are also expecting a setback in their pursuit of England midfielder Declan Rice.
Here are the latest Chelsea transfer news.
Declan Rice alternative
Chelsea are considering a deal for Marseille midfielder Boubacar Kamara, one of Europe’s most sought midfield linchpins. Unlike West Ham’s £150 million captain Rice and Monaco’s £68 million targets Aurelien Tchouameni, Kamara is a free agent after declining to renew his contract with the French club.
According to the Daily Mail, Aston Villa are keen to sign 22-year-old Kamara, but Atletico Madrid have made a £3.8m bid, therefore Tuchel needs the takeover to go through swiftly. Chelsea have yet to make a bid for Rice, and even if Boehly spends big, the Hammers’ asking price is unlikely to be met.
Romelu Lukaku swap deal
Following Manchester City’s signing of Erling Haaland, beIN Sports commentator Richard Keys feels Harry Kane would be an excellent match for Chelsea. Last weekend’s goals against Wolves were the Belgian’s first in the Premier League in 2022, according to Keys.
And he thinks a swap deal with Tottenham might bring Lukaku back together with former Inter Milan boss Antonio Conte.
Armando Broja interests rivals
Despite not scoring in 11 appearances for Southampton, Armando Broja has been a success on loan from Chelsea. Mikel Arteta is rebuilding his front line after losing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to Barcelona, according to HITC.com. Broja’s last goal at St Mary’s came against West Ham in the FA Cup.
