Barcelona could unilaterally slash the salary of Frenkie De Jong by activating article 41 of the government’s workers statutes in Spain, Mundo Deportivo reports.
Article 41 states that “a company can change the main working conditions of their employees – like their salary. Such modifications need to be based on either an economic, technical, organisational or productive cause.”
That means Barca can do this without seeking consent from De Jong.
However, this step seems like a last resort for the Blaugrana if De Jong remains adamant and Barca can’t register players.
It may ultimately lead to a messy legal battle between the player and club.
