Liverpool have once again proved themselves one of the most forward-thinking clubs in world football with the appointment of Frigyes Vanden Auweele.
That is the view of medical expert Ben Dinnery, who runs the Premier Injuries site and has a background in injury and data analysis.
As relayed by Training Ground Guru last Wednesday (20 July), Liverpool have created the new osteopathy position specifically Vanden Auweele.
Osteopathy is an injury prevention and treatment method that emphasises physical manipulation, massage and stretching.
It is understood that Liverpool are the only team in the country to employ someone in this specific department.
Dinnery insists that the Merseysiders’ latest hire is an example of their characteristic ingenuity.
“Within the Premier League, I’ve never seen anything like this,” he told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.
“On the continent, they are a lot more open to this sort of thing. Liverpool are pushing the boundaries in terms of what’s possible. They are always looking to gain an extra edge.
“Everything is about availability. You need players to perform but you also need them to perform optimally. When you are playing two or three times per week, it’s difficult.
“There is no let-off in the Premier League. You need to hit the ground running from day one. You need to eke every last drop of performance out, and this is one way to do this.
“Liverpool now have a huge department with massive resources. They involve a lot of AI technology and are getting the best personnel.
“There is a huge shift in focus to ensuring that this element of their business is really taken care of. Liverpool are taking it all to the next level.”
