Liverpool: Darwin Nunez Could Be The Key To Evolution After Mane

Liverpool are said to be desperate to sign Benfica striker Darwin Nunez and are willing to break their transfer record to do so.

After scoring 34 goals for the Portuguese giants last season, the Uruguayan, 22, is one of Europe’s rising stars, with a slew of suitors circling him.

Atletico Madrid and Manchester United are among those who have expressed interest, but according to the Mail, the Reds will outbid the competition by making a big-money offer.

According to the source, Liverpool are prepared to surpass their existing transfer record of £75 million spent on Virgil van Dijk in 2018 to sign Nunez.

Nunez’s transfer fee might reach £85 million, with the player himself reportedly interested in a move to Merseyside.

The FA Cup and Carabao Cup champions are getting ready for life without Sadio Mane, who has been linked with a move away from Anfield.

The Senegalese international has been a key part of their attack for the past six seasons, scoring 23 goals in all competitions during the 2021-22 season.

If he leaves, replacing his goal-scoring ability would be crucial, and manager Jurgen Klopp sees Nunez as the man to do it.

According to the Mirror, Bayern Munich made a formal offer of £23.5 million for the Senegal striker on Monday evening, with additional add-ons of roughly £6.5 million, bringing the total close to £30 million.

The Reds, on the other hand, have regarded the offer as a joke, pointing out that some of the bonuses offered are very difficult to obtain.

The South American can play both on the left and up front, similar to Mane’s role under Klopp last season.
