Kevin Campbell has claimed Naby Keita’s availability is “a big boost” for Liverpool ahead of the visit of Crystal Palace.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Arsenal and Everton striker said the 27-year-old is “the obvious choice” to replace the injured Thiago Alcantara.
Thiago Alcantara was forced off injured in the second half of Liverpool’s 2-2 draw at Craven Cottage on Saturday.
According to The Athletic‘s James Pearce (8 August), the centre-midfielder faces six weeks on the sidelines with a hamstring problem.
Pearce revealed Keita will be available for selection against Crystal Palace on Monday though.
The Guinea international missed Liverpool’s trip to Fulham last weekend because of illness.
When asked by Football Insider if Keita’s return takes on extra important due to Thiago’s absence, Campbell said: “Yeah, of course, it is a big boost.
“Keita is the obvious choice in midfield now that Thiago is out. If there is ever a problem in midfield, Keita is usually the one who comes in.
“Listen, I like Keita. I think he brings something a little bit different to the midfield. He is not Thiago but he has his own style.
“Keita performed for Liverpool last season. Is he as good as Thiago? No. But they have still won a lot of games with Keita in midfield.
“A home game against Palace… I don’t see any problems with him coming in.”
