Manchester United are reportedly close to signing Frenkie de Jong from Barcelona in a deal worth around £68m plus potential add-ons.
The Frenkie transfer saga might finally be coming to an end after the two clubs were reported to have made significant progress in their talks to sort the future of the Dutchman who could be on his way to Old Trafford very soon.
De Jong had earlier expressed his desire to stay at the Camp Nou but due to Barça’s financial crisis, the player have come to accept that he will have to be sold in order for the Catalans to generate funds in running the affairs of the team.
According to a reliable source (Gerard Romero), Man United are confident of closing this deal with Barça before they depart for their preseason tour on the 8th of July. And should that eventually happen, then the Red Devils will be getting a player who was ranked the best across Europe’s top five leagues when it comes to success rate in dribbling.
Last season, Frenkie’s dribble success rate stood at a staggering 85.0 percent, 4.3 more than closest contender Marco Verratti (80.7).
Adama Traore who spent last season at Barcelona on loan from Wolverhampton Wanderers takes the third spot with 78.1 percent success rate for his dribbles while Juventus ace Adrien Rabiot is a bit further behind on 77.2 percent.
Rayo Vallecano central midfielder Santiago Comesana (75.0) and Villarreal’s Etienne Capoue (74.5) completes the top six chart.
£68m for a player like de Jong with such statistic doesn’t seem much, considering the fact that he’s still 25 and will spend the best years of his career at Man United if the transfer goes through.
With the guidance of Erik ten Hag, Frenkie has the ability to even better the above-mentioned stat in his potential debut season in the English topflight.
