Thiago Alcantara: Pundit issues ‘massive’ Liverpool verdict after interview reveal
Paul Robinson has claimed “it would be massive” for Liverpool if they can keep Thiago Alcantara fit for the entirety of next season.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England number one claimed the 31-year-old can help bring the best out in Harvey Elliott and Curtis Jones.
Thiago was one of Liverpool’s key players in the 2021-22 campaign but still suffered a few niggling injuries.
Speaking to club media (24 July), the centre-midfielder revealed that he has learned a lot in two years under Jurgen Klopp’s “teaching”.
He added that he expects to be “even better” in the 2022-23 campaign.
When asked by Football Insider for his thoughts on Thiago, Robinson said: “We saw the best of him last year.
“In his first season, there was question marks over him early on. He couldn’t get a run of games in the side due to injuries.
“Last season we saw the very, very best of him in games.
“It would be massive for Liverpool if they can keep him fit for the duration of next season. He can be a key part of Klopp’s team. He is that good.
“It is vital that he stays fit because when you look at the midfield. [Jordan] Henderson and [James] Milner are not getting any younger. [Alex] Oxlade-Chamberlain could be on the way.
“Elliott and Jones are going to get a lot more game time. It would help those youngsters playing with someone like Thiago in that midfield.”
