Memphis Depay has reportedly been informed by Barcelona that he is no longer needed at the Camp Nou. The Blaugrana want to use the 28-year-old attacker in a deal to sign Sevilla defender Jules Kounde, according to AS.
Depay arrived in Catalonia last summer from Lyon on a free transfer and registered 13 goals and provide two assists in his 37 appearances across all tournaments.
In November of last year, Koeman was ultimately fired and Xavi Hernandez took his place. Depay failed to get starts for his squad despite having the most goals for the club last season (12 goals in all competitions).
This was primarily brought on by the January arrivals of recent additions Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Ferran Torres, and Adama Traore.
His problems were made worse by his ongoing injuries, which prevented him from competing for his position. Depay’s current deal expires in just one year, and it is likely that he will be sold to make room for other notable players.
Barcelona will start their preseason tour of the US the following week. According to the AS report, the club is willing to accept bids for the Dutch forward, who can play anywhere in the front three, in the range of €20 million.
