REPORTS: Chelsea plotting a move for PSG defender; Chelsea sale in chaos after new development

According to football transfer rumours in British media, Chelsea are considering a move for PSG centre-back Presnel Kimpembe.

The 26-year-old centre-back has played all his life at PSG. He has made his way through the youth system at the French club and made his senior debut in 2015. He has two years left on his current contract which expires in 2024.

The centre-back has featured in 38 matches this term, netting two goals and providing one assist in all competitions.

He is considered to be one of the best centre-backs in France. Kimpembe has earned 26 senior caps for the France national team but is yet to open his goal-scoring account for his nation.

Adding a centre-back remains Chelsea’s top priority this summer and Thomas Tuchel will have drafted a shortlist of a number of possible targets he could approach in the coming weeks.

The France international is thought to perfectly fit the profile of defensive player Tuchel wants to target in the summer transfer window. He is a long term admirer of Kimpembe and believes he can get the most out of the France international.

The Blues are desperate to make an impact in the summer transfer window.

The 26-year-old has been a good servant for PSG, and is a centre-back who places himself in the right positions in defensive situations. He has the quality and the experience to make an immediate impact.

According to the report, “Chelsea are interested in PSG defender Presnel Kimpembe. Thomas Tuchel and Chelsea’s scouting team have made reinforcements at centre-half a priority for when new owners take over at Stamford Bridge. The Blues expect to lose Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen this summer – and there’s the possibility that Cesar Azpilicueta also departs the club via the exit door. Without new signings, those departures would leave the Londoners short in central defence, and having to rely on a 38-year-old Thiago Silva. Goal says Kimpembe is under consideration by the Blues. Kimpembe has spent his entire career at PSG, but would be tempted by the challenge of the Premier League should his former boss come calling.”

If Chelsea can agree on a fee with PSG, the deal should be easy to complete.

A centre-back of Kimpembe’s ceiling will be a massive addition to Chelsea squad as he will not only improve the overall quality of Tuchel’s starting XI but also add some stability and variety to his defensive department.

How strong that interest is and whether Chelsea will make a move remains to be seen but it is certainly one worth keeping an eye on.

Chelsea sale in chaos after new development

The top English Premier League team Chelsea football club is currently on sale. However, the sale procedure is facing fresh chaos as the former owner Roman Abramovich now reportedly wants to get back his £1.6billion loan to the club.

After the recent Russian invasion of Ukraine, the UK government put a sanction on the Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich due to his alleged ties with Russian President Vladimir Putin. That sanction meant that Abramovich’s all assets would be frozen. After that sanction, Chelsea got a special licence from the government to run the club till 31st May 2022. So, the Blues would be in deep trouble if they don’t find a new owner before 31st May, which is less than a month away.

After the sanction, Abramovich announced the sale of the Chelsea football club after setting the base price of £3billion. At that time, he also completely wrote off Chelsea’s debt to him.

According to many media reports, all proceeds from the sale of the London-based club will go to the government. That money will be used to help the affected people by the ongoing war in Ukraine and grassroots development in the UK.
