Chelsea reaches an agreement to sign Sevilla defender
Chelsea have reached agreement to secure the signing of 23-year-old French centre-back Jules Kounde from Sevilla in the summer transfer window, according to GOAL Spain.
However, Kounde came very close to joining Chelsea, but Julen Lopetegui’s side decided to increase their asking price for the Frenchman at the last moment, leading to the move collapsing.
The France international join from Bordeaux in 2019, the defender has been nothing short of a revelation. In his debut season with the Spanish outfit, he helped the club win the UEFA Europa League and has played a key role in ensuring Los Nervionenses achieve top-four finish up till now.
Furthermore, Kounde has impressed heavily again and has never left Chelsea’s attention. The Blues are in the market for defensive reinforcements as Antonio Rudiger is set to join Real Madrid on a Bosman deal while Andreas Christensen is headed to Barcelona
Our view:
With Kounde coming to Chelsea, it will help boost the Blues defence alot especially now that Rudiger will be leaving to Madrid. Rudiger gap will not be felt if only the Blues will finalize this deal on time to avoid competition from Barca in the summer.
The new Chelsea owners is ready to back Tuchel in the transfer window, but the Sevilla defender has a release clause of between €80-90 million, though Sevilla would be willing to accept a bid of at least €70 million for Kounde.
