Chelsea intends to negotiate a new contract with midfielder N’Golo Kante, despite Manchester United’s interest.
The Blues have continued to value the Frenchman’s skills despite his important role for the club over the last six years.
Although his form has slipped in recent months, The Independent reports that contract discussions with him are inevitable.
Kante’s current contract with the Blues runs out in 2023. He’ll almost certainly get a multi-year extension.
The revelation is a huge setback for the Red Devils, who may have to hunt for midfield reinforcements elsewhere.
The Dutch strategist had lately identified Kante as a target, and he may now persuade the hierarchy to consider other options.
Declan Rice of West Ham United does not appear to be one of them. The Hammers want £150 million to authorize his summer departure.
