Man United failed in a deadline-day bid to sign Espanyol striker Raul de Tomas, sources have told Coolbaze.

Erik ten Tag’s team had been in the market for a new centre-forward throughout the summer and made a late approach for the Spanish 27-year-old.

De Tomas has been open to leaving Espanyol after disagreements with new manager Diego Martinez, who has left him out of the matchday squad in the opening three La Liga games of the season.

The forward was keen to join United but a deal could not be agreed following deadline-day talks.

De Tomas had been linked with a number of Premier League clubs during the summer window after scoring 40 goals in his last two seasons for Espanyol, including 20 last term.

The former Benfica and Real Madrid star, who has four caps for Spain, is contracted until June 2026.

He has notched 35 goals in 81 games in the Spanish top flight.
