Revealed: The reason Romelu Lukaku was signed after failed talks with three other strikers

Romelu Lukaku did not seem to be Chelsea’s first choice when it came to recruiting a new striker in the summer of 2017.

It’s common for teams to have long lists of possible contenders for any given position; nevertheless, rumours claim that Chelsea talked to three other strikers before signing Lukaku, but none of them were realistic choices. Despite the fact that clubs often have big shortlists of possible applicants, this is unusual.

Chelsea reportedly had talks with players such as Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski, Tottenham’s Harry Kane, and Dortmund’s Erling Haaland before signing Romelu Lukaku, according to Goal. They eventually decided to sign Lukaku.

According to the report, the club chose to put all of their eggs in the basket of acquiring Lukaku since none of the other options seemed viable.

This might explain the whole controversy about whether or not Thomas Tuchel is willing to adjust his style of play to fit Lukaku, as well as the length of Lukaku’s interview with Sky Italy in which he questioned Chelsea’s system.

This circumstance has just one conceivable conclusion, in my opinion.
