Roy Keane has questioned the commitment of former Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku after another underwhelming performance for Chelsea yesterday.
The Blues were victorious in the FA Cup semi-final against Crystal Palace thanks to goals from Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Mason Mount. However, the margin of victory could have been greater in the closing moments.
Timo Werner pulled the ball back across the goal as Lukaku slid in. Somehow the Belgian managed to hit the post instead of finding the net and the miss has since led to widespread criticism.
Discussing Lukaku’s form post-match Keane and Joe Cole were both critical of the striker with the former questioning the player’s desire. Speaking to ITV Sport, Keane said: “Hit the target.
“Sometimes you have to ask a striker how badly do you really want to score? His mindset… Something’s not right.”
Cole went on to add: “[Playing for his Chelsea future] Without a shadow of a doubt. When he came into the club we thought he was the missing piece of the jigsaw, that target man.
“It didn’t happen for him, he got an injury, it’s just sort of got away from him. He can come back as quickly as it can go.
“If he scores last week against Real Madrid, if he scores today, he could be starting in the cup final, then things look rosy. Football can change in one game.”
Keane however dismissed the notion that it was just luck going against the Belgian. “He’s got to make a change though,” he explained.
