Shocking injury stats show how Chelsea first team was slashed

Chelsea have been severely hampered by injury this season, and a look at the numbers reveals that the situation is considerably worse than we had anticipated.

Out of a possible 34 starts this season, Reece James has made only 18 of them. Mateo Kovacic has 14 points, while Ben Chilwell has just six.

Between the three of them, they have made 54 out of a possible 102 Premier League appearances. The three of them are at the heart of the team’s inventiveness, and without them, the manager would have been obliged to overhaul the system rather than just modifying his current routines.

And that’s not even taking into consideration the injuries and Covid issues that have deprived us of other players during the season.

It’s impossible to predict where we would have finished the season if all three players had been available for all 34 games, but we can be fairly certain that we would have finished much higher in the standings and felt much more optimistic about the season overall if they had all been available.
