The First Four (4) Players To Move To The EPL As Free Agents


Many clubs in the English Premier League (EPL) have been busy in the 2022 summer transfer window. This is has led to dozens of transfers to the English first tier. So far, four of the players that moved to the EPL have done so as free agents.


One of such footballers is Boubacar Kamara. This Senegalese-born French Player is a midfielder. Kamara moved to Aston Villa from Olympique Marseille following the expiration of his two-year contract at the French Ligue 1 side. In the 2021/22 season, he scored 1 goal and made one assist in France’s first tier.

The 22-year-old Frenchman will certainly contribute to the defensive department of the Villans given his ability to play as a defensive midfielder and as a centre-back.

Joe Rothwell, a former England U-20 player is the second footballer in this category. Until his move to newly promoted Bournemouth,

Rothwell was a midfielder in the ranks of Blackburn. The right-footed Englishman started his football career with Manchester United youth teams before joining the Rovers on a four-year contract.


Meanwhile, the 27-year-old made thirteen goal contributions to the English Championship team in the 2021/22 season. Roth well is a master of interceptions as he made 48 interceptions in the just-concluded season.

Mateusz Lis (a former Poland youth player) is the third player in this list. Lis was in action Altay SK (a Turkish first tier club) until his contract expired at the end of the 2021/22 season. Thus, he moved to Southampton FC on free transfer.


The goalkeeper was involved in fifty matches for Altay in the season under review. He however conceded fifty goals and kept seven clean sheets. The Polish player is expected to add depth to bench of the Saints.

Ivan Perisic is one of the first four players to move to the EPL as a free agent for the 2022/23 season.

The 33-year-old midfielder moved to Tottenham Hotspurs as a free agent from Italian giants,

Inter Milan. Meanwhile, Perisic (a Croatian player) scored eight goals and made seven assists in the Italian Serie A in the 2021/22 season. He is expected to bring his Champions League experience to the London club.
