Thomas Tuchel eyeing two new forwards for Chelsea

According to The Guardian, Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has expressed his desire to address the club’s goal-scoring issues by bringing in two new attackers during the summer transfer window.

During the first half of the Premier League season, the Blues were heavily favoured to mount a strong bid for the league championship. Despite this, the Blues completed the season in third place overall in the Premier League.

The team maintained a consistent hold on the top position in the rankings up to the month of December, when their pursuit of the championship was hampered by a winless streak of seven matches (five draws and one loss).

They went on a victory run from February into March, which helped them gain some momentum, but it was too little, too late as Manchester City and Liverpool continued to pull away from them at the top of the table.

The season for Chelsea was ultimately over when they had just four wins out of the remaining ten games in the league. They ended with a total of 74 points, which was 19 points behind the winning team, Manchester City.

The same can be said about their goal-scoring, despite the fact that their defensive record was a reason for worry in the latter stages of the season due to the fact that they had only three clean sheets since April.

Despite the fact that they have been successful in scoring goals in the vast majority of their games, it has been abundantly obvious that they have missed a number of excellent scoring opportunities over the course of the whole season.

It was a common occurrence during the tail end of the 2020/21 season when Tuchel was in charge, and there has not been much of an improvement despite the acquisition of Romelu Lukaku over the summer of 2018.

Mason Mount was the only player in the league to score 11 goals, making him the only player to reach double digits. Both Kai Havertz and Lukaku concluded the season in the league with eight goals scored for themselves.

Tuchel is now looking to add two forwards to the team in order to strengthen it, but any new additions might immediately coincide with notable players leaving the club. It wouldn’t come as a shock if Lukaku decided to leave the club.

Despite Robert Lewandowski’s desire to leave Bayern Munich and rumours that Chelsea are interested in making a surprise approach for him, it seems that the Poland international is set on signing with Barcelona.

However, the Catalan giants are struggling with their own finances, and the president of La Liga recently said that the club cannot afford him given their massive losses.

Because of this, the Blues should have a remote chance of signing Lewandowski, who has only become better as he has gotten older. The player, who is valued at £45 million, scored an incredible 50 goals for Bayern Munich during the previous campaign.
