Thomas Tuchel provides key injury updates ahead of Chelsea vs Arsenal

Chelsea will trade tackles with London rivals Arsenal in the Premier League at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday. A win for the Blues will see them consolidate on third place on the table, and push them 11 points ahead of the Gunners, who are sixth with 54 points. Ahead of tomorrow’s blockbuster clash at the Bridge, Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel held his prematch conference this afternoon.

The German tactician was, as usual, asked about a variety of things, none more important than the team news ahead of tomorrow’s game.

Thomas Tuchel has confirmed Mateo KovacicCallum Hudson-Odoi and Ben Chilwell are the injury absentees for tomorrow’s game against Arsenal. Chilwell is a long term absentee expected to miss the rest of the season while Callum has also been experiencing injury issues with his back and his Achilles for a while. Speaking on both players, Tuchel said:

“He (Chilwell) will be able to join in team training with the youth, this will be his next step in the weeks and hopefully, he can join our training at the end of the season. With Callum, it’s day by day but not possible to join team training.”

He also spoke on Mateo Kovacic, who suffered an injury early in the FA Cup semifinal against Crystal Palace over the weekend. Tuchel has bow confirmed that it is an ankle ligament injury, but is hopeful that the Croatian midfielder will not be out for more than two weeks.

So in summary; Mateo Kovacic has joined Hudson-Odoi and Chilwell on the injury list, and will miss the game against Arsenal. Everyone else is fit and available for selection.
