Georginio Wijnaldum has not had the best of times at Paris Saint Germain following a free transfer back in 2021. With so many midfield options available for the French Champions last season, Wijnaldum’s role for PSG was severely limited. It looks to get even worse for the 31-yeat-old as PSG are in the market eyeing new midfielders, with Vitinha and Renato Sanches mentioned.
According to reports, there have been “whispers” that Liverpool are considering a loan move for Wijnaldum. Though the rumour has received mixed reactions from fans, could his return prove to be a wise move for Wijnaldum and Liverpool?
Last season, during a very hectic schedule for Liverpool, they had only Fabinho, Thiago, Henderson and Keita to call on regularly during the final parts of the season when the stakes were high. Milner’s role was reduced due to age and the likes of Jones and Elliott were rarely called upon for the same reason.
One would imagine how the presence of a player like Wijnaldum, who rarely gets injured, would have helped Liverpool manage fatigue and fitness during that crucial period.
Considering Liverpool are reportedly not going to spend big on a midfielder this summer after they missed out on Aurelien Tchoumaeni, the loan signing of Wijnaldum- a player already conversant with the club- could be of help.
